Rijnboutt is an Amsterdam-based architecture, urbanism and landscape architecture firm that designs on all levels of scale: from buildings to urban areas. This innovative company mainly focuses on projects in the Netherlands and has been involved in a variety of designs, to name a few: The Garage (Amsterdam, Stadionplein), Post Utrecht (Neude) and ROOTZ (Haarlem, Schalkwijk).

THE KALVERSTRAAT PROJECT

Building a piece of the city

Rijnboutt always creates a part of the city. With respect for the past and the future, for environment and function and for everyone who arrives, stays and leaves again. Rijnboutt works on the urban issues of the future: densification, repurposing and transformation, climate adaptation and nature-inclusive building.

THE KALVERSTRAAT PROJECT

Parametric design

Our collaboration began with an in-house course about parametric design. We worked together on a signature project to optimise the facades. When facades become more complex, manual modelling of double curvature is no longer efficient - this is where parametric design can help.

THE KALVERSTRAAT PROJECT

The solution

Together we looked at the 3D models of the facade and the important parameters. Then we were able to set up a parametric model that was able to generate the needed geometry. Based on our conversations, along with the producer (Polyproducts), we were able to adjust a few parameters on the model and it was able to be regenerated quickly. This helped to provide new insights into parametric modelling.

THE KALVERSTRAAT PROJECT

New knowledge

This project allowed for further development of designs for architectural projects through parametric modelling. The knowledge gained will result in working at a faster pace and delivering projects with high satisfaction.
